How To Nurse Your Hair Back From Summer Damage
Why Does My Hair Lose Moisture In The Summer?
You know when your hair is starting to lose moister. It gets stiff. It's a brittle feeling. It's tangled. It's gritty. Worse, you know it's going to get worse. Dry hair is almost like a migraine coming on. You know it's about to happen, and you feel like there isn't much you can do about it.
Even though it feels like you can't stop the brittle, cracky feeling (the inevitable dry hair blues), you can combat dry hair if you just understand the chemistry and causes of dry hair.
Why Does My Hair Lose Moisture In The Summer?
Moisture loss in the summer is caused by many factors:
- Heat - Heat causes dilation of blood vessels, which results in more water being lost from the body through sweat. Because your scalp contains blood vessels, it also loses moisture when you sweat.
- Sun - Exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun causes damage to cells and depletes your body's supply of water-binding protein called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is needed to bind water molecules together and keep them in place within skin cells. The sun also breaks down lipids (fats) which are used to coat hair shafts to protect them from environmental damage such as UV rays and pollution.

- Dehydration - Dehydration occurs when we fail to drink enough water throughout the day or from sweating too much during exercise or other physical activity. In addition, some medications can cause dehydration such as diuretics for high blood pressure or diabetes medications such as metformin (Glucophage).
What Can I Do To Add Moisture Back Into My Hair?
Moisture is key to having healthy hair. If you have dry hair, it's important to use products that will help keep the moisture in your hair, such as a leave-in conditioner. This will help to lock in some of the moisture from your deep conditioner so that it continues to work even after you rinse it out. Our favorite leave-in conditioner is the Aluram leave-in conditioner.
If you really want to make sure that your hair stays moisturized all day long, then you should also consider using products like natural oils or glycerin-based products in your shampoo and conditioner routine. These ingredients will help to keep water locked into your hair shafts so they don't get dried out as quickly during styling or when exposed to heat from blow drying or flat ironing.
If you're still having problems with dryness, try switching up your styling products as well. Some people find that they need a heavier cream than others do when styling their hair because they have less natural oils than other people do on their scalp and/or face.
What Moisturizing Products Work Best On My Hair Type?
It's important to note that different hair types require different products. If you have curly or curly-wavy hair, then you'll love the Aluram Curl Line. Their collection uses coconut water and avocado oil to add intense moisture. Using natural oils in your product such as shea butter, avocado oil, and coconut oil will help repair damaged strands by infusing them with moisture.
If you have fine or thin hair, then a leave-in conditioner may be more effective. Leave-in conditioners penetrate deeper into the cuticle than traditional conditioners do and can help add volume to your hair while keeping it hydrated.
